About the role

This position will provide leadership for a team of Culinary Support Engineers that will be working side-by-side with top culinary chefs and designing appliances and robotics using cutting edge technology that will be used for cooking and cooling food. This Director must be a hands-on Engineer, knowledgeable in commercial appliances, and be a problem solver that can manage, lead and mentor a group to bring advanced appliances to production.

The position is a leadership role with ownership and responsibility for product requirements, developing a clear product design for equipment.
Develops strategic plans for the department, in partnership with leadership, to ensure successful implementation of objectives and priorities.
Leads the development of evaluation criteria for projects and programs related to the department; knows what to measure, how to measure it, and can present solid direction from data and insights
Looks beyond existing methodologies and own discipline to define and resolve complex problems that are sometimes outside of scope of immediate responsibility
Regularly interacts internally and externally with senior leadership within and across multiple functions
Works and influences cross-functional projects effectively by understanding how things get done across a multiple functions at the Company
Manage a team of Culinary Support Engineers that work with culinary chefs to create cutting edge appliances to reduce cooking cycle time and increase food quality.
Responsible for the collection of equipment requirements, design, development, implementation, and analysis of advanced appliances. Systems will include, rethermalizing food through induction, light and modified wave length methods along with refrigerated products.
Create partnerships with external vendors to reduce New Product Development lead-time.
Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams and product owners to develop and execute multi-generation product designs, product plans and new product introductions (NPI) that are rated as a 10 out of 10.
Develop financially justified business cases for new products and product enhancements.
Assist in the coordination and lead major engineering initiatives managing timetables, product costs and performance specifications – working with operations and culinary teams.
Works with manufactures to reduce approval time through regulatory agencies such as NSF/UL/NEC/NFPA.

The experience you have

10 – 14 years experience in commercial/consumer food equipment design.
5 to 10  years in management role in design engineering or R&D and must be able to show proof of the designs.
Demonstrated leadership in delivering significant improvements to Multi-Generation Product Plans and world-class product quality. Consistently achieves results, hold self and others accountable.
Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
Demonstrated strength in cross-functional and leadership level communications
Solid knowledge of NSF and UL regulations for commercial food service equipment.
Experience with IoT/connected products
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Excellent problem-solving skills
Flexible approach to work and the ability to adapt to change
Self-motivated attitude and the ability to use initiative
Must be willing to travel
