Antonio Gonzalez Navarro dedicated his entire career to the Baking Industry, specifically in Grupo Bimbo, where he began immediately after getting his Engineering Degree from the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico. He started his career as an Engineering Trainee in Bimbo´s first production plant; during  the next 44 years his passion, knowledge and dedication grew through various positions within the Group, from Head of New Installations, New Projects Manager and the following 25 years until his retirement, as Global Engineering and Planning Vice President.

Mr. Gonzalez became part of the history of Grupo Bimbo. He was a key leader having actively participated during the years of great development, growth, modernization and technological update, through organic expansion, first in Mexico, and continuing with the rapid and aggressive internationalization, becoming responsible for the new facilities, from design to installing and commissioning.

His leadership and technical skills were key elements for the operation, high productivity and operational efficiency, which contributed to the relevance that Grupo Bimbo currently enjoys.  These expansion and growth were such that Grupo Bimbo went from being a company of five facilities, to more than 100 locations in 17 countries, within North, Central, South America and Asia by the time Mr. Gonzalez retired.

He was a key player, and in several cases, fully responsible for the incorporation of new technologies at the design of the facilities, same as for the technical/technological upgrade of existing ones, their automation, and following the Company’s Green Strategy in those activities that include, among others, water conservation, carbon footprint reduction, as well as the implementation of projects for saving and rationalization of the use of energy.

He developed a team of Engineers, highly productive, competent and capable of designing and carrying out the complete engineering needs of the company’s rapid growth, which on several occasions meant simultaneous installations and commissioning of bakeries from “greenfield” on, in order to respond to the challenges posed by the great growth mentioned.

Mr. Gonzalez also found time to mentor many Engineers who succeeded under his guidance and leadership, and who have now reached top positions in the Baking Industry.

His suppliers describe him as a fair, open, humble and intelligent professional who established Bimbo as a global leader in technology, now an icon for the Bakery Industry.
