Harold Stewart

Harold “Chick” Stewart, an electrical engineer by training and an experienced “oil man” from the Middle East and South America, designed and patented the “Stewart Monoflex Bread Cooler,” the first continuous belt system used to cool bread before packaging. Stewart Engineering and Equipment Company began as a crane and hoist distributor in Dallas, Texas in 1947. It soon expanded to include fabrication and sales of its own material handling products. Chick’s untimely death in 1963 left his widow, Anne Stewart, to manage the organization, which she successfully did for the next 20 years. Stewart’s design remains today a benchmark of bread cooling conveying systems.
